Eco-Camp at Hamburg

Location

Berks Nature’s Eco-Camp at Hamburg is held at Kaercher Creek Park, located at 100 Kaercher Creek Rd , Hamburg, PA 19526.

Ages

Children entering 1st grade through entering 5th grade (ages 6 through 10 years old).

Snacks and Meals

Campers should bring their own lunch. Some snacks are provided.

Time

Full-day Eco-Camp begins at 9:00 am and runs until 4:00 pm. There are no half-day camp options at this Eco-Camp location.

Rates

Campers aged 1st-5th grade: $190 per camper

Prices are listed per camper, per week, and reflect extension activities planned.

Berks Nature is working on finalizing a license agreement with the PA Fish and Boat Commission who are owners of the park. If for some reason this agreement cannot be finalized, full refunds will be made.

Eco-Camp 2024 Themes

Week 1: Olympic Games

(June 17th – 21st)

$190/camper (1st-5th)

1st-5th grade (6-10): Become part of the Berks Nature Olympic Team through nature themed games and adventures. This week will include learning about the value of hard work, strategies and skills to support one another, and most importantly, that having fun means everyone is a winner!

Week 2: Color Outside the Lines

(June 24th - 28th)

$190/camper (1st-5th)

1st-5th grade (6-10): Campers will look to nature for artistic inspiration exploring natural dance, music making, and art creation. They will immerse themselves in nature to find inspiration for painting, writing poetry, journaling, and creating music. This week’s activities might include painting, dancing, natural tie-dye, and exploring other ways to express their relationships with nature.

Week 3: Wilderness - A Survival Adventure

(July 8th – 12th)

$190/camper (1st-5th)

1st-5th grade (6 – 10): Campers will learn to survive in the wilderness using the bare essentials in a backpack. They will learn about the principles of ‘Leave No Trace,” situations that could occur when going for a short or long hike in the woods, and strategies to track animals. A large portion of the week (3 days) will be dedicated to learning how to properly shoot a bow and arrow (with a qualified instructor) and fishing using a rod and bait!

Week 4: Prehistoric Week

(July 15th - 19th)

$190/camper (1st-5th)

1st-5th grade (6-10): This week we will travel back millions of years.  Our journey will take us to explore the prehistoric world of dinosaurs and volcanoes.  This theme brings the excitement of the prehistoric world to life!  Campers will learn about dinosaurs, explore how volcanoes work, create fossils, and participate in dinosaur activities and games.

Week 5: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

(July 22nd - 26th)

$190/camper (1st-5th)

1st-5th grade (6-10): This week campers will practice the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They will create masterpieces out of recyclable materials ‘aka’ junk art. Campers will participate in an egg drop extravaganza by creating their own vessels for the event. By week’s end, campers will have a better understanding of how waste affects our planet. All material used will be recycled.

Week 6: STEAM: Time to Tinker

(July 29th - August 2nd)

$190/camper (1st-5th)

1st-5th grade (6-10): This week campers will engage in a variety of STEAM activities. STEAM integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math into learning activities. STEAM is designed to teach children to be innovators, to think critically, and to use creative approaches to solving real-world problems.
